When the colour is used as an adjective, add the letter "e" at the end of the word and place the adjective right before the noun like in English, for example:
- Das blaue U-boot (The blue submarine)
German adjectives are adapted to the noun depending on its form (masculine, feminine, neutral or plural). In the basic, or Nominative form, they are:
- Die gelbe Blume (The yellow flower) - feminine
- Der gelbe Tisch (The yellow table) - masculine
- Das gelbe Tuch (The yellow scarf) - neuter
- Die gelben Blumen (The yellow flowers) - feminine plural
- Die gelben Tische (The yellow tables) - masculine plural
- Die gelben Tücher (The yellow scarves) - neuter plural
